Why Cycle ?

Cycling for some may be just a hobby but to many its a way of life. Though cycling in Malaysia may not be a culture just yet, however there are evidence to show that it is currently picking up. For those who are finding reasons to justify why they need to pickup cycling, here is a list of reasons why you should cycle. It is important to take note that as a mountain biker, the list would be slightly biased towards mountain biking, however most of the principals would still stand.

1) Cycling requires minimal investment

For those who are currently searching for a new hobby, you should consider cycling as in general it does not require much investment. Now don't get me wrong here, your first bicycle purchase may cost you something however in general making cycling a hobby wont cost you much. Consider other sports like Paintball, Bowling, golf or Badminton, if you want to take it up seriously that is, all these examples do need a certain amount of initial investment to buy markers, balls or rackets but on top of the initial investment every time you want to play you would be required to pay again for stuff like location rental, green fees and shuttlecocks. As for cycling, all you need is a bike and it can be done anywhere, so far I haven't heard of any place that charges rental for trails.

2) 2 is a crowd

In order for you to play other forms of sports, most of the time you would need about 5 players, (paintball 5 players, futsal 10 players etc) finding people who are free at the same time is kinda tricky, so most of the time you would be left disappointed when your friends let you down. For you to cycle, all you need is 1 (one!) friend, and that's only in case anything happens and its good if you have company. In worse case scenario, you could do it all alone and still have fun.

3) you get adrenaline rush + a lot more...

When people push themselves to the limit, most of the time it is to seek the adrenaline rush that comes with the danger. If we compare cycling to motor sports, we know that both offers a significant amount of adrenaline rush, however cycling has a very interesting by-product, and that is a healthy body. When you cycle it gives your heart, blood vessels and lungs a workout  as a result you get to minimize the risks of heart diseases while increasing your stamina, while burning fat, while alleviating stress, while toning your muscles and the lists just go on.


4)You get free cycling tips from other cyclists for free

I dont know why, but perhaps it can be attributed to the smallness of the community or simply the passion for cycling. If you show some qualities of a cyclist like wearing a jersey, have a cycling sticker on your car,  attach a bicycle rack on your car or simply loiter around a bicycle store, it would just be a matter of time before someone starts to have a chat with you. Relationships have been built on the basis of lending an allen key.Cyclists will never be shy to share their stories and knowledge. People use to say that golf is a socializing game, but a lot has changed now, there is just to many classes in golfing. Mountain biking is the new socializing game, if you don't believe me go and start a conversation with any cyclist you meet, and you will get what I mean.
