Why now is the best time to start cycling ?

When we want to predict something, we often look at not one, but a few indicators. I am predicting that (mark my word) by the end of this year the cycling community would grow, at least to double the current amount.

There are a few strong indicators :

1) Malaysia have finally gotten our own cycling magazine, more info here (www.cyclingmalaysia.com). When a community has grown to a point where they have their own magazine, we know that the members are of a significant number. As evidence,Ian Ching the editor of cycling Malaysia wrote in the second issue that their forecasted demand was insufficient. The first issue was selling like hot cakes, within a short time they were nowhere to be found in major bookstores. Even the second issue had similar problems when the publisher had to increase their print run several times to meet the overwhelming demand. Now that we finally have our own magazine, its just a matter of time before the community would grow bigger because magazines doesn't only signal a strong presence but it also sparks interests amongst many newbies.

2) Malaysia have finally gotten our own purpose built cycling park, yes its true, the Putrajaya Challenge Park (www.putrajayachallengepark.com) is ready for usage. This means that we have gotten essential governement support which is enough to convince them to fund the building of a cycling park in Putrajaya. This means that there is no threat that one day this trail will be demolished to make way for the building of apartments or bungalows. This is a gazetted park, which is protected by the authorities. On top of that, this park provides special trail and clinics for beginners, who would think of beginners before this ?

3)Malaysia have finally created a cycling hero, Local cycling ace Anuar Manan continued his sensational form to create history by becoming the first Malaysian to win a stage in the Tour of Langkawi.
Anuar, 24, representing Geumsan Ginseng Asia, won stage five from Muar, Johor to Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, a distance of 111.5km, en route to sweeping aside a strong challenge from world class pro tour and continental riders. With the victory, the Terengganu-born rider who clocked 2’23:11, joined an illustrious list of seven riders from Asia who have achieved such a feat and only the second Asean rider to do so since 1996. Now what does that say ?

There are a lot of other indicators, a whole signature concept store opening in Kota Damansara for example, who in the right mind would invest such amount of money unless they can forecast that one day the bicycle market will grow..

So the answer lies with you now, do you want to join and become a novice now, when the crowd is still small or would you want to wait until everyone around you is talking at lengths about cycling and mountain biking, would you only join then ?
